Crazy lace agate is a banded chalcedony from Chihuahua in northern Mexico, famous for wild, looping patterns in cream, red, orange, grey and yellow. The bands twist into swirls, zigzags and little eye shapes, which is how it earned the crazy part of its name. Locals call it the laughing stone for its cheerful look. It formed around 65 to 90 million years ago as silica-rich water filled cracks in limestone, building up layer by colourful layer.
